about

Back on Fluid Funk after his flamboyant maiden transmission from last year, ‘Phoenix Flight’, German house whiz Simon Hinter reemerges with a multi-flavored number, ‘Fridge Funk’ EP - a quartet of auto-defrosting joints ready to bump out loud both in a club and/or domestic jazz setups.

Swinging the pendulum betwixt straight up jacking material, cross-dimensional escapology and soulful ambiences, Hinter reels out the feelgood vibes and solar-powered bars like tinsels of oneiric lushness. Hopping swiftly from hi-velocity roller coasting down the Chicago highway to further laid-back textural show-offs on a more kosmische and balearic-inspired tip by turns, he entices us in limbo proper volatile dance-floor chatter and sleek, otherworldly uplift.

Crammed with weaponized organic flavors and freshly-milked synth ebullience, ‘Fridge Funk’ oozes pure old-school straight-to-the-point’ness with its cosmonautical house groove and prismatic keys racing across heavily-filtered sonic landscapes and steep disco reliefs a la Alan Braxe. Nostalgic and serene, ‘Last Night in Yolo’ opts for a further understated approach with its stealth sub-bass squelch exploring the darker facet of the audio spectrum; shooting its luminous synth chords in the distance as a shower of brittle, FX-drenched chords descends upon us with ethereal weightlessness.

Flip it over and there’s ‘Antenna’ propelling its listener down frenzied rapids of bleeping pyrotechnics and Afro-funk-indebted percussions. A hip-swaying carnival of subtle tap-tapping drums, ghostly chimes and after-ready dynamics, that makes it a much fitting vehicle for all daybreak zeroing. Infused with abstract hip-hop tropes and MPC-spoken rhythmic grammar, the final number ‘Watcha’ rounds off the trip on a languid, poetic note, conjuring up a flock of slowed-down slap riffs and cottony pads moving in symbiotic motion as the drums beat a sluggish, lo-NRG finale for goodbye.
